Flood Disaster Relief
- Namanjalala Outreach, East Africa - Kenya
I say
then, Walk in the Spirit,
and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
--- Gal. 5:16
It is certainly a wonderful promise and assurance to know
that,
… if you walk in the Spirit, you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh!
But, what does it mean to … walk in the Spirit?
Does it mean that …
Our spirit is or should be in control of our lives?
Our spirit is controlled by the Holy Spirit?
A living relationship with the Holy Spirit?
In other words,
Does walking in the Spirit mean my life
should be under control spiritually,
… either by my own spirit?
… or by the Holy Spirit?
Alternatively,
is it talking about me cooperating with God and the Holy Spirit?
|
And either way,
… is there something I can do or need to do?
In the
Spirit!
Well firstly, what does in the spirit mean?
Jesus gave us a good indication of
what “walking or living IN”
means
when He made this comparison
between the body of Christ
and a vine with its branches
in John chapter 15,
saying ...

Flood Relief -
Namanjalala
Western Kenya
|
|
Due
to unseasonal and heavy rainfall
all
over Central and East Africa,
many
areas of Uganda and Western Kenya
were
severly flooded, leaving
many people
without
food or shelter.
Covenant
Ministries together with
Covenant
City Church
as
well as some
of
our
associated pastors
and
helpers
from
the Covenant Kids Centres
went
to Namanjalala in
Western Kenya,
close
to the Ugandan border,
where
virtually the entire village
and
surrounding area
were flooded,
leaving
hundreds of families destitute.
We
had not expected the damage
or destruction to be as
extensive as it was,
or indeed that so many people
were made homeless
through the floods and subsequent
water damage and sometimes
near total destruction to their
mainly timber and mud
constructed
homes
...
... and
although we would have liked
to have done more for them,
even
with what we considered
as limited resources,
we
were still able to provide
food for more than 1000 people
(over 200 families)
...
and of course
where possible, we helped
all we could to restore
some order and
also do some repairs
to the flood damaged homes
as well as clean up
and save whatever
furniture and clothing
could be cleaned and saved.
Finally,
we were also able to
distribute quite a number
of blankets
and drinking water,
which
were graciously donated
by some of the shops
and traders from the area.

Applying
God's principles
|
...
practically to life!
|
It's now six years that I know pastor Jan, and when I look back over
this time,
I can honestly say that my life has totally changed.
So also has my family and the way we look at things changed.
My wife Christine can now appreciate ministry, my children can now
appreciate God.
Covenant Ministries made us to
reconsider our stand and change our focus,
and
this has caused us many blessings. We
had suffered in the hands
of
people for long time and we always felt like quitting but thanks
be
unto God that now we are strong.
Our
financial status has improved and we now have the courage to say
God is good.
Through
Covenant Ministries I have defined what my ministry is and
because of this
so many doors and opportunities have opened up as
I travel around teaching at
Covenant Training Centers.
I
am also working in Covenant with pastor Dawson, intensively
travel introducing the
Covenant Disciples Bible Courses to
pastors and leaders all over East Africa.
At
the same time I am working together with Covenant City Church as
one of
the pastors there and it is also there that my family has finally found
a home.
Albert & Christine
There is so much joy in our marriage,
ministry and relationship.
Thanks papa Jan for being a father to most of us.

street children & needy
communities ... all over the world!
Behold,
a sower went out to sow.
And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside
Some fell on stony ground … And some seed fell among thorns …
But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up,
increased & produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a
hundred.

4:3-8
